Welcome to Vocables, an AI-powered English vocabulary learning application. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of our service, including our website, mobile applications, and related services (collectively, the "Service").

Vocables is currently in beta and completely free to use during this period. By accessing or using Vocables, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you disagree with any part of these terms, then you may not access the Service.

Vocables is a vocabulary learning platform designed to help users improve their English language skills for exams (IELTS, GRE, TOEFL, SAT), professional communication, and personal development. Our Service includes:

• AI-powered vocabulary explanations and definitions
• Interactive quizzes and learning assessments
• Personalized word recommendations
• Progress tracking and study analytics
• Offline learning capabilities through Progressive Web App (PWA)
• Synonym exploration and contextual examples
• Local data storage for privacy and offline access

Vocables is currently in beta testing phase:

• All features are completely free to use during the beta period
• No payment information is required or collected
• You have unlimited access to AI-powered features
• The service may have occasional downtime or changes as we improve the platform
• Future pricing plans may be introduced after the beta period ends
• Beta users will be notified in advance of any changes to pricing or service terms

Account Creation

You can create an account to access personalized features of our Service through our authentication provider (Clerk). You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities under your account.

Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You shall not:

• Use the Service for any illegal or unauthorized purpose
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service
• Interfere with or disrupt the Service or servers
• Use automated scripts or bots to access the Service
• Reverse engineer or attempt to extract source code
• Abuse the AI features or attempt to overload our systems

Our Service uses artificial intelligence (primarily Google Gemini via OpenRouter) to generate vocabulary explanations, examples, and quiz questions. Please note:

• AI-generated content is provided for educational purposes and may not always be 100% accurate
• We strive for accuracy but recommend cross-referencing important information with authoritative sources
• AI responses may vary and are not guaranteed to be consistent across sessions
• We continuously improve our AI models but cannot guarantee perfection
• AI providers may change based on performance, cost, and availability

The Service and its original content, features, and functionality are owned by Vocables and are protected by international copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret, and other intellectual property laws.

You retain ownership of any personal data you provide, including your vocabulary progress and preferences. By using our Service, you grant us a limited license to process this data to provide and improve our services as described in our Privacy Policy.

Your privacy is important to us. Our collection and use of personal information is governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.

By using our Service, you consent to the collection, use, and sharing of your information as described in our Privacy Policy. Most of your learning data is stored locally on your device for privacy and offline access.

We strive to maintain the Service's availability but cannot guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be temporarily unavailable due to:

• Scheduled maintenance or updates
• Technical difficulties or system failures
• Third-party service dependencies (AI providers, hosting services, authentication services)
• Force majeure events beyond our control
• Beta testing and feature improvements

During the beta period, you acknowledge that the service may be subject to more frequent changes and occasional instability as we improve the platform.

While Vocables is currently free during our beta period, we may introduce subscription plans in the future:

• Beta users will receive advance notice of any pricing changes
• You will have the option to subscribe or continue with any free tier available
• No payment information will be collected until you explicitly choose to subscribe
• Any future subscriptions will include clear terms and cancellation policies
• Your existing learning data and progress will be preserved during any transition

Current Status - No Billing

As of the current date, no payment processing or billing systems are active:

• No subscription fees are charged
• No payment information is collected or stored
• All features are available at no cost
• No billing-related account limitations exist

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind. This is especially true during our beta period. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.

We shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages resulting from your use of the Service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. This limitation applies especially during the beta testing phase.

We may terminate or suspend your account and access to the Service immediately, without prior notice, for any reason, including but not limited to breach of these Terms.

Upon termination, your right to use the Service will cease immediately. However, your locally stored data will remain on your device. All provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination shall survive.

You may also terminate your account at any time through your profile settings or by contacting us. During the beta period, you can simply stop using the service without any financial obligations.

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify users of material changes by posting the updated Terms on our website and updating the "Last updated" date. During the beta period, changes may be more frequent as we refine our service.

Your continued use of the Service after changes constitute acceptance of the new Terms. For significant changes, especially regarding pricing or data usage, we will provide additional notice.
